The ACTive Agent Layout is missing from the Layout Button


Problem: You select a different layout from the Contact or Group window, by click the Layout button on the lower, right screen. You then click on the button again to change back to the Active Agent layout and it is missing.

Cause: The default layout directory for ACT is set to a different directory than the Active Agent layout directory. By default, Active Agent installs the Active Agent layouts into the "C:\Program Files\ACTAgent\layouts" directory and ACT! (Version 6) installs the standard layouts into the "C:\Program Files\ACT\layouts" directory ("C:\Program Files\Symantec\ACT\layouts" for ACT 2000).

In the Preferences the default location for layouts is (by default) set to the ACT! layout directory. Therefore when you click on the layout button on the bottom right it looks for what layouts exist in the directory specified in the preferences and hence, the Active Agent layout is not displayed.

Fix: There are two ways to fix this issue.

  1. You can copy the Active Agent Layout to the default ACT! layout directory (C:\Program Files\ACT\layouts for ACT! 6 or C:\Program Files\SymantecACT\layouts for ACT! 2000), this will add the Active Agent layout to the list you see when you click the layout button at the bottom right.
  2. You can change the default location for the layouts to the Active Agent default layout directory (c:\Program Files\ACTAgent\Layouts). You will then need to copy any of the default ACT! Layouts you want to see under the layout button on the bottom, right to the Active Agent default Layout directory.

Both alternatives would solve the disappearing Active Agent Layout problem, however I would suggest alternative 1.
